The Story of Jetta’s Gourmet Popcorn
Behind every bag of artfully seasoned classic butterfly popcorn is a proud Detroiter, Magita "Jetta" Barbee. A self-proclaimed fun food enthusiast, Magita has been delighting Southeast Michigan with tasty treats for decades. Jetta’s Gourmet Popcorn is the culmination of years spent listening to customers, collaborating with family, and following her passion to serve others, all rooted in faith and prayer.
When she’s not mixing local favorites like the Eastside and Westside Mixes at Brightmoor Artisans Collective, Magita teaches computer technology, business, and entrepreneurship at her alma mater, Denby High School located in Detroit, where she developed a love for retail and marketing as a co-op student and DECA member. Today, she inspires students to explore and pursue their own passions.
Our Food Truck
Magita's first venture, Breezin’, began in 1997 as a seasonal ice cream truck, officially retiring in 2011. Although she received many offers to sell it, Magita held on to her beloved truck. She briefly opened a fun food retail shop inside Eastland Mall, but when that was short-lived, she refocused on crafting gourmet popcorn for retail and concessions.
Now, more than twenty years later, the truck is back as Jetta’s Gourmet Popcorn & Fun Foods, with a refreshed look and a menu of concession favorites like nachos, pretzels, novelty ice creams, chili dogs, and, of course, her renowned gourmet popcorn. A setback was just a setup for a comeback!
